Trick × Illusion!

Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art
Finished
Trompe l'oeil and other works that deceive the viewer's eyes have been created in all ages and cultures, and have been enjoyed by many people. The world of tricks to deceive the eye and illusions that cannot exist in reality are surprising and amusing, and they capture the hearts and minds of our viewers. and fascination, and they never fail to capture our hearts and minds.

Artists have created such expressions by taking advantage of the uncertainty of human vision and the preconceptions and stereotypes we unconsciously hold. Sometimes humorous, sometimes questioning "what it means to see," they have incorporated a wide variety of propositions into their works.

This exhibition focuses on illusions and fantastical images created by various methods and introduces approximately 70 works by artists from Japan and abroad, including paintings, sculptures, videos, and media art.
