Trajectory of the Museum's 44-year Collection I: Mino Momoyama Pottery

Toki City Historical Museum of Mino Ceramics
Finished
This year marks the 44th anniversary of the Toki City Historical Museum of Mino Ceramics, which opened in 1979. With the construction of a new museum underway, the museum will soon put an end to its history and move into a new building. In anticipation of the upcoming closure, a series of displays will be held throughout 2023 looking back on the history of the museum's collection of materials.

The exhibition will center on "Mino Momoyama Porcelain", the core of the museum's collection. Mino Momoyama pottery refers to tea ceramics produced in Mino from the Anso period (the end of the 16th century to the beginning of the 17th century) when the tea ceremony was popular. One kiln that was the center of Mino Momoyama pottery production at that time was the Motoyashiki Pottery Kiln Site, a national historic site in Toki City. Forty-four years ago, the museum opened near the Motoyashiki Kiln. Since then, it has focused its research and collection on the Motoyashiki Kiln, artifacts from the kilns of the same period, and Mino Momoyama porcelain from the period of its transmission.
