For more than 30 years, Toyama City has made glass one of the pillars of its urban development policy. Toyama City is one of the world's leading cities to promote "glass city development" based on these three pillars: the Toyama Institute of Glass Art, which fosters glass artists; the Toyama Glass Studio, which promotes glass as a cultural industry; and the Toyama City Museum of Glass Art, which allows people to appreciate and become familiar with glass as an art form.

In 2001, the Toyama Glass Studio, with the cooperation of the Hasegawa Ceramic Research Institute, made effective use of waste jade stones from Asahi Town in Toyama Prefecture to develop a soft, pale, white-green colored glass called "Koshino Hisui." In 2006, through joint research with the University of Toyama, “Koshino Ao” was developed, which is inspired by the deep blue-green color of Toyama Bay, and in 2018 two new colors were added to Koshino-Hisui, Shion and Celadon. In 2020, “Koshino Kohaku,” was added and these five colors were collectively called "Toyama Mandara Sai.” Lifestyle products and accessories were developed using these colors.

For this exhibition, three colors were selected from "Toyama Mandala Sai", "Koshi Jade" (white green), "Koshi Heki", and "Koshi Amber", and three artists, who are currently leading the glass art world in Japan, were invited to create original works of art using Toyama Glass.
