Toshi Yoshida
Toshi Yoshida (1911-1995) was the son of Meiji-era painter Hiroshi Yoshida, his mother Fujio was a painter, and his younger brother Hodaka was a printmaker. The family, known as the Yoshida Family, traveled across the United States to promote woodblock prints. Toshi’s sketches of animals from a young age eventually led him to the vast plains of Africa. His unique perspective on animal observation is set from the standpoint of nature, making it seem as if the animals are gazing intently at us humans. This exhibition marks the first retrospective of the painter Toshi Yoshida.
