In 1890, the Ottoman warship Ertugrul arrived in Japan, but on its return journey, a typhoon claimed the lives of most of the crew. Torajiro Yamada started a donation drive and took the collected donations to the Ottoman Empire. At only 24 years old, he was struck by the majesty of the Ottoman culture and the warmth of the people.

This exhibition will tell the story of the exchange between two countries with different histories, Japan and Turkey, through the eyes of Meiji-era figure Torajiro Yamada, while providing an opportunity to feel the importance of deep respect for the other's culture.
