Tomiyuki Kaneko
After completing his studies at the Tohoku University of Art and Design, Tomiyuki Kaneko established his studio in Yamagata Prefecture. He has been depicting invisible entities such as yokai (supernatural creatures), mysteries, myths, spirits, and deities, which are passed down in the Tohoku region and around the world. These images, deeply embedded in his psyche, take the form of amalgams of religious art imagery and are created not only using traditional Japanese painting techniques but also various materials.

In 2015, he traveled to Cambodia for training under the Agency for Cultural Affairs, where he researched the visual arts of local religions and beliefs. In tandem with this experience, he continues to explore the primal existence before the formation of images of gods and spirits.

In this exhibition, in a country abundant with water resources like Japan, he will present over 10 works ranging from large pieces to small works with the theme of dragons and serpents, revered as water deities and objects of worship in various regions. We invite you to view these magnificent and wholehearted works that fill the space.
