Mito, Ibaraki-based Tohru Nakazaki is known for a diverse range of activities, including unique signboard works themed around the "discrepancy" between "words" and "images," as well as project-based works that involve many people, turning the process itself into art. In recent years, Nakazaki has conducted interviews with people connected to specific areas, buildings, and regions, using the gathered words to create touring installation art series across various locations in Japan.
In this exhibition, Nakazaki conducted interviews with three individuals of different ages, genders, and occupations, all leading unique lives deeply connected to the city of Shibuya. The lives of these three individuals, who would never cross paths otherwise, are interwoven with a focus on Ibusuki's new works. Viewers, through the fragments scattered on this stage, will sense the disparity between the image of the city viewed from above Shibuya Sky and their own present and life differences, experiencing the close connection between society and the individual. While the outline of this city undergoes continuous redevelopment, that outline might also become an experience that shakes one's perceptions.
