The "Strandbeest" are kinetic sculptures that walk along the sandy beaches of the Netherlands, powered by the wind. The name combines the Dutch words for "beach" ("strand") and "creature" ("beest"). These creations were developed by the Dutch artist Theo Jansen (1948 - ), who conceived them as a potential solution to his country's rising sea levels. Strandbeests are primarily constructed from plastic tubes that form their skeletal structure. They are not only capable of walking but also can change direction and adapt to various environments, continually evolving. The movements of these creatures, based on principles of physics and engineering, are smooth and lifelike.

This exhibition presents 14 of Jansen's Strandbeests, including his latest works, along with videos, sketches, prototypes, and other materials that illustrate the creative process and the evolution of these kinetic sculptures. Often referred to as the "modern-day Leonardo da Vinci," Jansen merges science and art to create these awe-inspiring beings.
