The Voice of the Sea

Yaizu Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum
Finished
Permanent Exhibition II will introduce the activities of Lafcadio Hearn in Yaizu, dividing them into four themes: visits and writing activities, meals, festivals, and the sea. The exhibition will feature artifacts and photo panels from the memorial hall's collection, providing a comprehensive understanding of Lafcadio Hearn in Yaizu.

In the viewing corner, a mini exhibition titled "The Voice of the Sea" will be held. In September 2022, improvisational pianist Alexander Benkei Kato-Willis presented the piano composition "The Voice of the Sea" to the Yaizu Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Hall. Composed by Kato-Willis, who deeply admires Hearn, this mysterious and magnificent piano piece evokes the murmuring of the waves ebbing and flowing, as well as the changing expressions of the Yaizu sea with the passage of time and weather. This exhibition will introduce this piano piece along with photographs of the Yaizu sea, sketches by Hearn, and an excerpt from Hearn's work "In Yaizu."
