The Story of Ogai's Determination— Historical Novel "The Abe Family"

Mori Ogai Memorial Museum
Finished
Ogai Mori (1862-1922), known for the historical novels like "Sansho Dayu" and "Takasebune," began writing these works in 1912 after the death of General Maresuke Nogi. Ogai's novels bring to life forgotten tales from Japan's history, exploring themes of conviction and societal engagement. Today, these stories offer insights into both Ogai's time and our modern era. This exhibition introduces the early historical novels, reflecting on them through the words of literary figures and materials from the museum's collection.
