The Road Unto the Tsutaju: The Beginning of the Ukiyo-e

Echizen Fukui Art Museum
Finished
The exhibition focuses on works from Hishikawa Moronobu, the founder of ukiyo-e, to Suzuki Harunobu, who perfected the art of nishiki-e. Kabuki actor prints also emerged during this period, and many simple but powerful and auspicious works were created, in keeping with the new and vibrant city of Edo. The exhibition also focuses on the deep connection between Echizen washi and the birth of nishiki-e. We will rediscover the fascination of ukiyo-e and Echizen washi through the works of the Adachi Printmaking Institute, which still uses the techniques of the Edo era.
