Takashi Yanase
In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Ichikawa City Yoshiba Garden Gallery, an exhibition will be held showcasing the works of Takashi Yanase (1919-2013), a versatile artist known for creating the beloved "Anpanman," writing the lyrics for the children's song "Teno Hira wo Taiyo ni" ("The Sun in the Palm of My Hand"), authoring the first picture book for young children, "The Kind Lion," and designing the Mitsukoshi wrapping paper logo, among other accomplishments. Despite the widespread recognition of the national character "Anpanman," the challenging war experiences that influenced Yanase's work and the breadth of his career are not widely known.

This exhibition will present an array of Yanase's works, focusing on original drawings, and highlighting his multifaceted career as a manga artist, picture book author, editor, and designer, earning him the title "The Seven-Colored Artist."
