Painting and photography are media that resonate within the framework of the visual arts. Influenced by painting since ancient times, photographic techniques developed as a means of capturing reality, and theories of focused light and composition in drawing were applied to the early techniques of photography. Conversely, the realism of photography enabled painting to pursue abstraction and individuality beyond the real image, giving birth to new styles such as impressionism and cubism. Today, the two have crossed boundaries and combined to develop a multi-layered expression through the fusion of photography and other media such as painting, sculpture and video. The combination of the subjectivity of painting and the realism of photography continues to produce new forms of artistic expression. This exhibition demonstrates how painting and photography enrich each other within the broad category of visual arts.
