The Great Adventure of Knowledge

Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of History
Finished
Located in Bunkyo, Tokyo, the Toyo Bunko was established in 1924 by Mitsubishi's third president, Hisaya Iwasaki, known for his love of books. It is Japan's largest and oldest research library specializing in Oriental studies.

In this exhibition, with full cooperation from the Toyo Bunko's collection of approximately one million volumes, over 100 precious items including national treasures and important cultural properties will be showcased.

Encounters with unknown worlds have always stirred people's curiosity. In an era without airplanes or the internet, people embarked on voyages of exploration through books. The Toyo Bunko, a library for Oriental studies, is a treasure trove of historical inquiries into knowledge. Guiding through the Oriental world are famous books, maps, and paintings seen in textbooks.
