The Galaxy of Letterpress

P&P Gallery
Finished
Fonts, which continue to overflow around us, serve as brushes laden with human emotions, supporting our daily communication. The roots of these fonts lie in Western typography. In the past, characters were printed using a stamp called "type." This technique, known as letterpress printing, was established in the 15th century and evolved alongside the Industrial Revolution. Among them, countless fonts of Western typefaces were mass-produced. Type manufacturers sold packaged sets of typefaces as products, which came to be called "fonts."

In this exhibition, the Western-type fonts produced by the Industrial Revolution are likened to the stars of the universe. Just as there is order among the stars in space, there is classification among countless typefaces, each with its background born out of industry. Experience the weight of fonts through actual Western typefaces, machinery, and publications from type manufacturers.
