Tsukuba Museum of Art, Ibaraki, only holds gallery exhibitions for rent. It is a participatory art museum based on the concept of "seeing, creating, and presenting." It opened in June 1990 as a branch of the Museum of Modern Art, Ibaraki, and is located in the Tsukuba Cultural Hall Ars, along with a library operated and managed by Tsukuba City. The museum is used as a venue for solo and group exhibitions of paintings, sculptures, crafts, calligraphy, photography, installations, and other art activities, and is well known as a community-based art museum.

The museum also holds Saturday Lectures at the Tsukuba Art Museum about 10 times a year on Saturdays. The curators of the Museum of Modern Art, Ibaraki, the Ceramic Museum of Ibaraki, and the Tenshin Memorial Itsuura Museum of Art, Ibaraki, speak on various themes at each lecture, which is full of episodes that only the curators can tell, such as stories behind exhibitions as well as information about artists and their work.
