The Flower of Sunpu - Shizuoka Sengen Shrine

Shizuoka City Museum of History
FinishedReservation Required
Shizuoka Sengen Shrine suffered two major fires during the Edo period (1603-1867), destroying all the buildings on the shrine grounds. In the latter half of the Edo period, a major construction project was undertaken to rebuild the shrine, involving various people including Shinto priests, warriors, and townspeople. This exhibition introduces the connection between Shizuoka Sengen Shrine and the Tokugawa Shogun family, the festivals and construction of Shizuoka Sengen Shrine during the Edo period, and how Shizuoka Sengen Shrine was a pillar of the Sunpu community.
