Artists

Insho Domoto
Insho Domoto (1891-1975) was fond of ‘sumi-e’, ink-and-wash painting technique. Domoto's pursuit of authentic ink expression began with his admiration for the elegant lines in Buddhist paintings from the Heian period (794-1185). Later, as Domoto studied Buddhist teachings, his ink expression became more abstract. After WWII, Domoto established his distinct style of black ink painting influenced by the postwar Informalism movement. The exhibition introduces Insho Domoto’s diverse monochrome world.
