The Cabin Company
The Cabin Company is a duo of artists consisting of Kentaro Abe (born 1989) and Saki Yoshioka (born 1988), who has converted a closed school in Yufu City, Oita Prefecture into their studio, where they create various works including picture books, paintings, three-dimensional sculptures, and illustrations.

Since their formation in 2009, they have published over 40 picture books. They received the Reader's Prize at the Japan Picture Book Awards for their book "Daiou Ika no Ikataro" (Suzuki Publishing, 2014) and won the 23rd Japan Picture Book Award for "Gakkou ni Maniawanai" (Akane Shobo, 2022). Their unique color palette and powerful imagery, showcased in their illustrations for the "Children's Book Week" posters over two years, have become increasingly familiar and beloved to children. Their activities extend beyond the realm of picture books; they have also worked on stage design for the New National Theatre Dance Performance Co. Yamada Un's "Obaketta" (2021) and handled character design and art production for NHK's "Okasan to Issho (E-Tele) Shirita Gaeru no Kekechama," as well as creating the cover and illustrations for the pamphlet of singer Aimyon's "Kizu to Akuma to Koi wo Shita!" tour.

The title of the exhibition, "Ode to Childhood," is a word created specifically for this event. It combines "dou," symbolizing the way children perceive and feel time, as in "playing endlessly on a slide dozens of times for hours," and "dou," meaning "to accept all things," as seen in the names of bookstores, pharmacies, and candy shops. The exhibition is divided into seven themed rooms, each filled with devices that make the space feel like a large book.

This exhibition, the first in a public art museum in the Kanto region, commemorates the 15th anniversary of the unit's formation. It showcases 400 original picture book illustrations from their early days to the present, as well as three-dimensional sculptures and video works.
