The Boy and the Heron Exhibition Part 1 Imageboards

Ghibli Museum, Mitaka
Finished
It is a rare "hand-drawn" animation work in recent years, in the sense that most of the drawings made during the production process were done with pencils and paints on paper. The perfection of the work, created by a small group of elite animators and art staff, including director Hayao Miyazaki, is the epitome of "hand-drawn" animation.

Today, hand-drawn animation has become mainstream with the use of digital equipment for drawing and art, and the boundary between hand-drawn and 3DCG animation is becoming blurred with the progress of digitalization.

As a result, paper, pencil, and paint are gradually disappearing from animation production sites.

This exhibition aims to provide an opportunity for visitors to experience the richness of hand-drawn animation, which begins with paper and pencil, and the power of drawing itself.

The exhibition will be held in three phases, beginning with the first part, "Image Board," followed by the second part, "Layout," and the third part, "Background Art," in which the exhibits will be rotated.
