The Belle Époque - The Beautiful Era: Artists Gathered in Paris, Centering on the Weismann & Michael Collection

Panasonic Shiodome Museum of Art
Starts 10/5

Artists

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Jules Chéret, Alphonse Mucha, Suzanne Valadon et al.
The "Belle Époque" was Paris's most artistically vibrant period from the late 19th century until 1914. This exhibition introduces the multi-layered cultural flourishing in various genres from the Belle Époque period to the 1930s, including art, crafts, theater, music, literature, fashion, and science.

The venue features posters by Toulouse-Lautrec and Jules Chéret, clothing and accessories worn by the bourgeoisie of the time, craft works by Émile Gallé and René Lalique, as well as letters and rare books that illustrate the interactions between artists. These diverse pieces vividly convey the prosperity and vibrancy of Paris during that era. Notably, the exhibition's centerpiece is the collection of paintings by David E. Weisman and Jacqueline E. Michel, which richly reflects the social conditions of Montmartre at the time.
