The inspection activities of the Japan Art Sword Preservation Association, a public interest corporation, have been conducted since 1948 to research and preserve Japanese swords. Currently, the primary focus is on basic preservation inspections, with authenticity authentication being the main purpose. Additionally, special preservation inspections, and further stages such as important and especially important, are conducted, emphasizing higher artistic grading. Among these, the important inspection designates works not only for their authenticity but also for their completeness as high-quality art and crafts with both documentary and soundness attributes, equivalent to nationally certified important artworks. Inspections are conducted annually without fail, and this tradition continues to this day.
