Artists

Tatsuru Nitta
Since first visiting Sakhalin in 1996, Tatsuru Nitta has been regularly traveling there from 2010. Nitta's work focuses on Korean expatriates and their families who remained on the island after World War II, following the Soviet Union’s entry into the war. Nitta’s encounter with Japanese-speaking women, who identified as Koreans from before the war, profoundly impacted the artist and led to a continued exploration of their lives. The acclaimed photographs capture the experiences of these women and the lingering traces of Sakhalin's past, reflecting its complex history and environment.
