Artists

Tatsuo Takayama
Tatsuo Takayama (1912-2007), born in Oita, was a Japanese painter who studied Nihonga. After World War II, Takayama was influenced by Paul Gauguin's style, incorporating vivid abstract expressions into the artwork. Takayama's art evolved over the years, and from the 1970s, it began to reflect the spirituality of human beings, leading to a unique career. In the 1990s, Takayama's style became characterized by subdued monochrome expressions, exemplified by the series "The Holy Family." An exhibition highlights Takayama's 70-year career, focusing on portraits leading up to "The Holy Family." It showcases works from student years, Gauguin-inspired pieces, and key works from each period, aiming to present the full scope of Takayama's artistry.
