Tatsuki Sako
Kameido Art Center is pleased to announce the solo exhibition of Tatsuki Ssko “Eye Catch”.

Sako is an artist who works across a wide range of media, including sculpture, video, painting, and animation, using ordinary materials that exist in our daily lives. This exhibition focuses on his interest in the “in-between” in his work, and attempts to visually explore this concept.

The title “Eye Catch” comes from the still images inserted during scene changes in animation and television programs. In his works, Sako focuses on moments in daily life that shift without clear boundaries and images that are vaguely linked in memory, and cuts them out as a single “scene.

This exhibition consists mainly of three-dimensional works using putty, a material he has been working on in recent years. Putty is a material originally used to join or fill something, but he positions it as something that exists “in-between.” By transferring his own painted “scenes” or “situations” onto the surface of putty, he materializes fragmented scenes that emerge in a continuous stream of time as sculptural forms. By incorporating “situations” that exist in daily life, he sublimates “what is between something and something” into an independent existence, and encourages the viewer to be aware of “what is seen” and “what is behind it”.

In addition, as a recent experiment, colorful works formed by melting plastic bullets will be exhibited. These works are formed while accepting the artist's unintended consequences, and are developed as a method of inscribing visual traces, like drawings in which the contingency of the material and the intention of the formative process intersect. Another characteristic of his works is that he consistently tries to bring out the charm of materials that are different from their original purpose and meaning by modifying them. His pure interest in “making” has led him to disassemble, reassemble, and experiment with the materials around him since he was a child. Today, he still views his work as “experimentation” and is strongly interested in exploring the possibilities of materials. He draws out the hidden charm in the shape and texture of materials that are generally overlooked, and presents new perspectives. Please come and see how the fragments of everyday life that Sako CATCHES at EYE are transformed into his works.
