Artists

Tatsuaki Kuroda
Born in 1904 into a lacquer shop owner's family in Kyoto, Tatsuaki Kuroda learned woodworking and lacquer crafting. In the world of lacquerware, Kuroda began to question the division of labor between woodworking and lacquering. From modeling with wood to lacquering, the works created by Kuroda encompassed the entire process and were unique, original, and modern. This exhibition features a wide variety of Kuroda's works, including boxes, jujubes, tea scoops, bowls, and flower vases.
