Tango Tanimura
Chasen (tea whisk), despite being a consumable item, is an indispensable tool in the Japanese tea ceremony. It is said that the quality of the whisk can significantly influence the taste of the tea. Tango Tanimura is a chasen master who continues the traditional tea whisk-making techniques that originated more than 500 years ago in Takayama, Nara Prefecture. He is appointed by the heads of the Ura-senke and Mushakoji-senke schools to craft first-grade products. While pursuing greater beauty and usability, his knowledge of tea whisks tailored to modern needs has garnered attention from the media and overseas in recent years. Tanimura’s tea whisks are known for their flexibility, suppleness, and ease of use for making smooth and fine tea. They are recommended for those who seek to enjoy tea casually. In addition to tea whisks, this exhibition will also showcase other bamboo works such as chashaku (tea scoop) and flower vases. We cordially invite you to visit and discover your favorite tea utensils that will enrich your enjoyment of tea time.
