The University of Tokyo Game Lab (UTGL) will host a roundtable discussion as part of the publication of "Japanese, Chinese and South Korean Writings on Game Culture" (Shinyosha, 2024). Researchers and critics from Japan, China, and Korea will gather to understand each other's gaming cultures and trends in criticism and research. This event aims to take the first step in building a network to address cultural, social, economic, and political challenges in East Asia today using the power of play and games.

The dialogue, focusing on the keyword "Imagination in Contemporary China," will feature critic and literary researcher Yang Junxiao, critic and editor Daichi Nakagawa, who mediates between contemporary art and indie game culture, and Deng Jian, a leading figure in game research in China and a bridge between Chinese and Japanese game researchers. The discussion will be moderated by Hiroshi Yoshida from UTGL (Aesthetics and Game Studies), and active participation and intervention from the audience are welcome.
