Tadanori Yokoo
In the 2023 exhibition 'Tadanori Yokoo: Kanzanhyakutoku' at the National Museum, Tadanori Yokoo, as a painter, unveiled an unprecedented 102 new paintings, showcasing the tremendous creative energy he possesses. One noteworthy aspect of his extensive 70-year career as an artist is his work in creating printmaking pieces using the silkscreen technique.

Having started his career as a graphic designer in the 1950s, Yokoo gained international recognition, winning the top prize in the printmaking category at the 1969 Paris Youth Biennale and holding a solo exhibition at MoMA in 1972. During this period, Yokoo actively collaborated with avant-garde contemporaries in Japan, such as Shuji Terayama, Hidetomo Hoso, and Tadanori Yokoo, positioning himself at the forefront of Japanese avant-garde expression. Simultaneously, his work resonated with the trends of "Pop Art" emerging from the United States, led by Andy Warhol, reflecting a profound presence that expressed the spirit of the highly consumptive society of the time. The silkscreen works created during this period are now part of the collections of renowned museums worldwide, including MoMA in New York and M+ in Hong Kong.

In this exhibition, rare pieces will be showcased, including the initial production of 'Endless Worries of the Giant Country,' which was drawn in 1969 but not printed for an extended period. Additionally, a valuable piece created for a poster of Hidetomo Hoso's 1968 photography exhibition in response to a request from the Tate Modern in London will be available for sale."
