Finished

Artists

Tadanori Yokoo
This exhibition will feature 100 completely new works from the "Kanzan Jitoku" series, contemporary artist Tadanori Yokoo's unique interpretation of "Kanzan Jitoku," all on view for the first time. The two artists who are the subjects of the series, Kanzan and Jitoku, were legendary poetic monks who lived during the Tang Dynasty in China.

During the outbreak of a new type of coronavirus infection, Yokoo worked on his artwork in his studio, away from the mundane world, as if he were in a state of seclusion, just as Kanzan Jitoku had reached. The 100 paintings in this series, the largest of the artist's career, are like a hundred facets that pose a variety of questions to the viewer.
