Spring at Okura Shukokan

Okura Shukokan Museum of Fine Arts
Finished
To celebrate the spring of the 6th year of Reiwa, Okura Shukokan will be showcasing paintings centered around the themes of the zodiac, auspicious symbols, and the beauty of nature. As a representation of the New Year, the exhibition begins with artwork featuring auspiciously shaped fans. Starting with the "Senmen-ryu-zu Byobu," a fan painting created by the Sotatsu school and mysteriously acquired by the Okura Shukokan Museum, on exhibit will be a collection of fan paintings from Japan and China.

Additionally, there will be artworks themed around the legendary creature, the dragon, associated with the zodiac sign of the Dragon for the current year. Exclusive to the Okura Shukokan Museum, traditional Chinese costumes and rare ancient inkstones will be introduced.

Furthermore, on display will be renowned works such as Taikan Yokoyama's "Night Cherry Blossoms," capturing the beautiful scenery from New Year to spring. Other pieces include sumi-e paintings announcing spring with harmonious ink tones, as well as colored works enchanting with the hues of spring. Enjoy our museum's collection suitable for welcoming the New Year and anticipating the upcoming spring during this festive season."
