Shuntaro Tanikawa Exhibition

Fukuoka Asian Art Museum
Finished

Artists

Shuntaro Tanikawa
Since the 1960s, poet Shuntaro Tanikawa has created over 200 picture books in collaboration with various artists and photographers. These books feature wordplay, clues to understanding the world, the enjoyment of nonsense, and themes ranging from the joys and difficulties of life to the preciousness of it, even touching upon topics such as death and war. Tanikawa continues to explore expression through art and words to this day.

What ties together Tanikawa's diverse range of picture books is his hopeful gaze towards the reader. The exhibition will feature approximately 20 picture books, along with original illustrations, videos where images and words come to life, readings, sounds, large scrolls, and specially commissioned installation pieces. It's an exciting exhibition that everyone, from children to adults, can enjoy, bursting with creativity that leaps from the world of picture books.
