Artists

Shuntaro Tanikawa
The poet Shuntaro Tanikawa (1931-) has created nearly 200 picture books with various artists and photographers from the 1960s to the present. These books explore themes such as wordplay, understanding the world, the joy of nonsense, and the complexities, dignity, and challenges of life, including death and war. Tanikawa continues to experiment with expression through words and images to this day.

What unifies these diverse picture books is Tanikawa's hopeful gaze toward his readers. The exhibition features about 20 picture books, showcasing original artwork, animated images, readings, sounds, large picture scrolls, and newly written installation pieces created with a variety of creators. It is an exciting exhibition that brings the world of picture books to life, offering enjoyment for both children and adults alike.
