In the tumultuous Showa era of war and peace, the modernization of cities and lifestyles became more familiar. This exhibition, themed around "Showa Modernism," will introduce select masterpieces from the collection of the Japan Modern Western Painting by the Sugar Industry Association and the collection of the Okawa Museum of Art.

Starting from Shunsuke Matsumoto's 'City,' the exhibition traces the Showa era through a diverse array of paintings, including those by prominent artists of the Japanese Western painting scene such as Takeji Fujishima, Ryuzaburo Umehara, Sotaro Yasui, and Seijo Togo. These artworks reflect the era of "Showa" from the perspective of "Modernism," seeking a refreshing image.
