Shota Yamauchi "Medium and Dimension: Apparition"

Aoyama|Meguro

Artists

Shota Yamauchi
The exhibition explores the theme of "apparition" through the works of artist Shota Yamauchi. Inspired by Marcel Duchamp's reflections, the exhibition delves into the concept of objects from higher dimensions "appearing" in the three-dimensional world. Yamauchi's pieces, including the computer-generated virtual space "Maihime" and the collaborative installation with Maki Ueda "Sweaty-Oily Sour-Cheesy-Juice," combine digital technology with bodily expression to evoke touch and smell, connecting them to emotions and memories. The exhibition, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of Duchamp's abandonment of "The Large Glass," questions the relevance of "machinery" and "eroticism" in the contemporary context, exploring the intersection of "technology" and "love" through Yamauchi's use of modern media and the overlapping of virtual and real spaces. Performances throughout the exhibition enhance the experience by creating a dynamic interplay between the two works, resulting in a cyclical system.
