Artists

Shoji Ueda
Shoji Ueda is often associated with "sand dunes"—mysterious spaces and stylish compositions. However, Ueda's photography is deeply rooted in the San'in region. From the 1930s to the early 1970s, most of Ueda's work was captured in San'in, driven by a fascination with avant-garde photography and its limitless potential. While initially known for staged photography, Ueda shifted away from this style in the 1950s to explore new approaches. Beyond the iconic dunes, Ueda focused on everyday life, nature, and local festivals, blending into the region while shooting. This exhibition showcases Ueda's works from early years to the 1970s, emphasizing the artist's connection to San'in and evolving techniques.
