Screen Prints of Canada's Northwest Coast Peoples

National Museum of Ethnology
Finished
The Pacific coast of Canada is home to indigenous peoples such as the Haida, Kwakwaka'wakw, and Coast Salish. They are collectively known as the Northwest Coast First Nations and are known for their large wooden "totem poles" and potlatch ceremonies. One of the driving forces behind this movement was the production of screen prints. This exhibition introduces unique Northwest Coast Native prints and shows the correspondence between social change and changes in printmaking.
