Satoshi Hashimoto
Since its founding, the gallery has aimed to transcend the boundaries of media, re-extracting time and space to create new events. Following the significant disruptions and transformations in society due to the recent pandemic, the gallery will continue to explore and practice this philosophy further.

Satoshi Hashimoto has previously developed numerous instructional artworks based on short sentences. For instance, ordinary chairs around us conceal commands such as "You can sit" or "Please sit down." Hashimoto highlights these subconscious directives that define people and challenge viewers in reverse. Instructions like "Cover yourself" or "You can hit yourself" installed in public spaces serve as both actions and targets of destruction in one's private domain, suspending the public/private divide.

Hashimoto's perspective extends beyond everyday objects to encompass economic and political dynamics, as well as scales such as weather and celestial bodies. His engagement with calendars and time, such as the "Two-day Calendar" or "Wednesday becomes extinct," goes beyond the societal choreography of labor and leisure embedded in calendars, even portraying the Earth's rotational movement as a form of choreography.

Hashimoto explains that the subject of his written words lies in the objects he handles. For example, the subject uttering "Cover yourself" is positioned alongside a spray can. The statement "Materials derived from plants curse and kill humans" inscribed on canvas (hemp) could be seen as a work that vividly portrays the relationship between words and materials.

In recent years, Hashimoto has expanded his artistic endeavors beyond instructional works into forms categorized as "forecasts" or "pronouncements" using short sentences. His extensive exhibition in February of this year garnered significant attention ("Beauty, Ambiguity, Depending on Time and Place," The curator is Mizuki Endo of Kudan House. In this exhibition, Endo plans to display around thirty new works alongside variations of his previous exhibition, expanding the exhibition space internally and externally.

The Art Users Conference, where Hashimoto serves as a member, has energetically pursued activities oriented towards the "outside" over the past three years. Results from exploring "outsides" in various locations, including activities in Aomori (such as the "Art Museum Composting Plan" at the Aomori Museum of Art from 2021 to 2023), will be reflected in Hashimoto's works showcased at this exhibition. Collaborating with the gallery for the third time since the pre-pandemic "Material Fair" (Mexico City), this exhibition follows Hashimoto's previous solo exhibitions such as "I Was Leonardo da Vinci. I Will Sell My Soul. I Will Sell Heaven." (2013) and "The Three Greatest Round Things in the World: Sun, Moon, and Eyes" (2017).
