Sanekatsu Toda
Sanekatsu Toda has been attempting to visualize "memories associated with a place" and "the complexity of that place" through various media such as installations, photography, and film. Starting from a video work inspired by the Ryounkaku that once existed in Asakusa and the Tokyo Skytree Tower (presented in May 2022 in Eisenach, Germany), this exhibition will unfold with installation works involving artists from other fields such as a poet and a guitarist. In addition to the video work, twelve two-dimensional works were created using "frottages of the streets" collected from the area where Ryounkaku in Asakusa was once located and the Sumida region will be exhibited. It aims to present "landscapes" not as purely objective entities with a distance from the subject—mere visual information—but as subjective elements encapsulated within individuals, intertwined with the presence of others, representing an organic entity.
