Ryuma Imai
Ryum Imai (born in 1976, in Tokyo) is a painter who paints animal motifs with slightly accidental lines and colors that are not bound by reality, using a technique called "poiring," in which lines are drawn as if hanging from a few centimeters above the canvas. He began working with his father, the painter Toshimitsu Imai, as a production assistant in his late teens, acquiring painting techniques and a sense of formative awareness.

This exhibition, Imai's first full-scale solo exhibition at a museum, will present approximately 70 of his works, from his first work in 1999, before he decided to become a painter, to his latest work, including "Dragon," a large work over 5 meters in length that will be exhibited in conjunction with this exhibition.

This exhibition will confront Imai's consistent themes of why he paints "living things" and what it means to "live by chance."
