Ryo Shimizu
This exhibition marks Ryo Shimizu's first solo show in six years and will be held at the Hiro Gallery Izu Okawa.

Hiro Gallery Izu Okawa, an annex of Hiro Gallery in Ginza, Tokyo, opened in 2017 in Higashi-Izu Town, Shizuoka Prefecture, surrounded by the sea, mountains, and rivers. With its exhibition space flooded with natural light, the gallery primarily showcases conceptual contemporary art, including large-scale installations.

In this exhibition, Shimizu will present a two-part installation based on his ongoing research and exploration of the topography, flora, and fauna of the Izu Peninsula since 2020, as well as the merits and demerits brought about by the invention of writing, or the people before the existence of writing. It explores the "form" behind the words and characters used in daily life.

In the first part, "Re-habilis," Shimizu will combine various forms of expression, such as images, sounds, structures, stones, collected items, light, heat, magnetic fields, and changes in thermal environments, using landscapes, historical sites, myths, legends, and place names such as Kamo and Naga as clues to create an installation focusing on the magical elements of writing.

This marks Shimizu's second solo exhibition following "something about a room not having a floor" in 2018.
