The "Fukuoka Shoyu Gallery" is a cultural and social facility that will be created in 2021 by renovating the historical building former Fukuoka Shoyu Building. The Fukuoka Soy Shoyu Gallery is a center of communication and exchange from Okayama to the world, hosting not only cutting-edge contemporary art exhibitions but also SDGs-related programs in collaboration with the local community.
Ryan Gander has gained worldwide acclaim for his multifaceted work, which takes many forms ranging from sculpture, video, apparel design, architecture, painting, publications, and performance. In Japan, his solo exhibition at the International Art Museum in Osaka (2017) attracted 26,000 visitors, and the exhibition at the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery (2022, Shinjuku, Tokyo) attracted over 21,000 visitors.
This exhibition will feature more than 10 works from the Suekawa Collection and new works, a large part of which will be on display in a room where visitors can view the works in darkness. On the first day of the exhibition, Gander will visit the exhibition and give a tour. In addition to Gander's world view in the unique historical architectural space, visitors can enjoy a tour of the art hotel "A&A (Artist&Architect)" where only one guest per day can stay, Okayama Korakuen Garden, one of Japan's three famous gardens, and various sightseeing spots in the Seinouchi area.
