Artists

Riusuke Fukahori
Artist Riusuke Fukahori is fascinated by goldfish and continues to create them. He has been creating goldfish with a three-dimensional effect using a novel technique called "2.5D painting," in which layers of acrylic paint are applied to transparent resin. His works give the viewer the impression that there is water in front of them and that beautiful goldfish are swimming around.

In the shimmering surface of the water, is it false or real, illusory or real? While Fukahori makes his works "appear" as if they are alive, he confronts head-on the fact that they are lifeless layers of paint. In Fukahori's work lies the fundamental proposition of realism: the cohabitation of illusion and matter.

This exhibition introduces approximately 300 works, including new works, from his early three-dimensional works to paintings, videos, and large-scale installations. The exhibition will shed new light on the goldfish sculptures that Fukahori has consistently worked on, and explore the artist's thoughts on painting and realism.
