Poison

Osaka Museum of Natural History
Finished
Poisons are understood as substances that are harmful to living organisms, including humans. However, some poisons are not just poisons but also have medicinal effects. Among naturally occurring substances that have some effect on living organisms, those that have a positive effect on humans are called "medicines" and those that have a negative effect are called “poisons.”

In other words, poison can be thought of as a concept created by humans to understand and utilize the diverse and complex natural world. Even something useful to the human body can become poison if too much of it is taken. Toxicity also differs depending on the level of sensitivity, as seen in allergic reactions.

In this exhibition, specialists in the fields of zoology, botany, geology, anthropology, and science and engineering will delve thoroughly into the poisons that exist everywhere in nature, including animals, plants, fungi, minerals, and man-made poisons, and explain them from their own perspectives. This special exhibition on poisons will be of interest to visitors of all ages and genders.
