PALAPA: Unnatural Engineering brings narratives that illustrate mankind's urge to comprehend, tame, and outsmart the force of nature. What if the sun never set? Do we know the phenotype of filet served on our table? Five moving image works in this program maintain the witty oblivion in fictionally depicting natural selection and its man-made modification.
PALAPA, a curated moving image program by Indeks, aims to critically examine moving-image art as both contemporary artistic medium and socio-political dialogue. Since its inception in 2021, PALAPA has taken place for 16 editions; including 2 international editions and 2 biannual festivals. Combining both black box and expanded cinema approach, PALAPA attempts to balance the search for thought-provoking and fresh talents as well as to bring critically-acclaimed canons, among others, Toshio Matsumoto, Christian Jankowski, Edwin, and Joris Ivens.
