The Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is dedicated to Michizane Sugawara, known as Tenjin-sama, as the deity of learning, culture, and the arts. The shrine, with a collection exceeding 10,000 items, including Michizane's writings and national treasures, promotes Tenjin-sama's role as a guardian of culture and art. The Dazaifu Tenmangu Art Program, initiated in 2006, showcases unique works by domestic and international artists. The shrine actively collects contemporary art and recently received the artwork "Negative Entropy (Dazaifu Tenmangu, Morning Ritual, Purple, Quad)" by Mika Tajima through an anonymous donation. This piece, inspired by Dazaifu, holds special significance for the shrine. Alongside this, the shrine exhibits a diverse range of paintings from its collection, featuring artists like On Kawara and Mokuma Kikuhata from Japan and abroad.
