This exhibition comes just before the publication of Osamu Matsuda's first book, "Amajin" (East Press, scheduled for publication on April 17), and just before the closing of the "Roppongi Crossing 2022: Come and Go Alai!" (Mori Art Museum), and before the COVID-19 is downgraded to "category 5," the same category as seasonal influenza, on May 8.
In 2020, the spread of COVID-19 and the subsequent declaration of several states of emergency caused tension in people's lives, including the need to refrain from going outside when not necessary. Three years on, this has faded and daily life is gradually returning, although it may not be the same as it was before the pandemic. The impact of wearing a mask for an extended period of time and the transition from in-person to online life are becoming more and more familiar at this time. On the other hand, there are probably many more people who have been working hard in unfamiliar situations over the past few years and have grown weary from the strain of trying so hard.
This exhibition is a continuation of the solo exhibition "It's Not Supposed to be Like This" held at the end of 2020 during the pandemic. If the previous exhibition was a group of works created during the confusion caused by the outbreak of COVID-19 and the declaration of a state of emergency, the new works presented in this exhibition are an attempt to present a view of the world found in the artist's own territory during Matsuda's life in the pandemic.
