This exhibition explores the ancient history of the Oki Islands from the 6th to the 9th century. It highlights the region's role in Japan's development, from forming regional cohesion to becoming crucial in foreign relations. During the Ritsuryo period, Oki Province supplied marine products to support the capital's food supply, while also serving as a frontier base against foreign countries. Discover how ancient Oki shaped Japan's nation-building process.
