Nozomi Kobayashi
Sanagutorium: A place where people who have undergone metamorphosis due to various events gather, waiting for the moment of their peaceful emergence (coined term).

Nozomi Kobayashi creates mosaic art with the theme of "the interconnectedness and affinity of self and others." Unlike traditional decorative art techniques that assemble small pieces like stones, glass, or shells, Kobayashi's style has evolved from photo medium transfers, drawing inspiration from block noise, and low-resolution images.

Since 2016, Kobayashi has established a unique style of carving mosaic paintings on wooden panels with a sculptor's knife and pouring metallic colors into the grooves. His works continue to undergo evolution and transformation.

Kobayashi's mosaic art often metaphorically represents contemporary society and individuals within it through tiny mosaic particles and their collective forms. The act of carving has been used to delineate individuals and imprint their existence.

In the contemporary society where widespread interaction is facilitated through social media, conflicts arise from individual assertions and protections stemming from their agency. The year 2023 saw a surge in cancel culture and hate crimes. As an artist living in the present, Kobayashi takes a break from the carving process in this exhibition and attempts to express people waiting for the emergence of a new era in the harmony and safe cocoon of fine particles.
