Nonotak
We are pleased to announce the first solo exhibition of Nonotak at Candybar Gallery in Kyoto.

Nonotak is an art unit of Paris-based artists Noemi Schipfer and Takami Nakamoto. Since their formation in 2011, they have been attracting worldwide attention as up-and-coming artists in the media art world. They create artwork that synchronizes light and music by illuminating lines, curves, and geometry in space. Their works appeal to both the auditory and visual senses.

Nonotak has exhibited and performed their works around the world, including at Tate Modern, Art Basel, Mutek, and Sónar, among others. They have also cooperated in the production of video clips for Hermes, Adidas, Stella McCartney, and Puma, as well as providing artwork for the film John Wick 4. Currently, their huge work is also on display at the new Paris Metro station, which opened in preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In Japan, starting with an exhibit of their work at Roppongi Art Night in 2014, they presented a dedicated performance at Kiyomizu Temple's special autumn nighttime viewing in 2017, and in 2018 they showed a performance at the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto. In addition, a huge work is on permanent display at the recently completed Shibuya Sakura Stage in Shibuya, Tokyo.

In this exhibition, "Masks" will be presented for the first time in Japan. While Nonotak creates works while utilizing a variety of techniques and media, "Masks" is an immersive work that does not use lighting or music, but instead uses parallax effects in a minimalist presentation.
The simple but multi-layered structure expresses Nonotak's unique worldview, and one can sense the progress of digital technology in the history of art and their strong focus on new expressions that they have always been working on.

We hope you will enjoy these works, which will allow you to experience Nonotak's new frontier.
